The ICC is home to some 500 events annually and is the UK’s largest purpose built convention centre. The venue was voted the UK’s Best Conference Centre in 2007 and in 2008. It was also awarded Business Superbrand status for 2008.
Previously Geoff was the Business Excellence Director at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) having joined the EICC in September 1994, before the Conference Centre was opened. He helped take the EICC through from the pre opening phase, to the expansion design phase. In 2003, Geoff guided the EICC to winning the European Quality Award. In addition the Geoff lead the EICC to become accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, an Investor in People and the highest scoring Hospitality Assured organisation for 5 consecutive years to 2006.
Prior to joining the EICC, Geoff spent almost 14 years in the Royal Navy, specialising in logistics and support services (including legal, financial, hotel and training) before completing an MBA at the University of Edinburgh.
In addition to his MBA, Geoff has a Diploma in Marketing and is a member of The Institute of Management, a member of The Institute of Quality Assurance and a qualified award Assessor for the European Foundation for Quality Management. He is also; a Board Member of the City Centre Partnership; a faculty member of the Association International des Palais de Congres Academy; Director of the Association Internationale des Palais de Congres.
Before moving to Birmingham, Geoff also held various external positions.
These included; a founding Trustee of People 1st, the UK Sector Skills Council (SSC) for Hospitality, Leisure, Travel, and Tourism, being involved with the project from its inception; Chair of People 1st in Scotland; Member of the Scottish Tourism Minister’s Strategy Body and Director of the Scottish Tourism Forum.
